Itinerary

Tuesday - Settle into your compartment as the Eastern & Oriental Express departs Chiang Mai before enjoying a delightful lunch in one of the beautiful dining cars. Later that afternoon you arrive into Lampang, one of Thailand’s most attractive provincial capitals, having retained a number of its old wooden buildings. Lampang is also known throughout Thailand for its horse-drawn carriages. Return to the train and maybe take a visit to the Observation Lounge before dressing for dinner. Dine in one of the sumptuous dining cars and spend a relaxing evening in the Bar Car entertained by the resident pianist. Retire to your compartment which has been transformed into a cosy bedroom by your personal steward.

Wednesday - Breakfast is served by your steward in your cabin before arriving at Kanchanaburi, where you disembark for a photo opportunity of the train crossing the famous Bridge over the River Kwai. You then board a traditional large floating barge for a cruise along the River Kwai. During the sailing you will be able to admire the many splendid Thai teakwood houses amidst peaceful lush scenery. A short coach ride transfers you to the Thailand-Burma Railway Centre where a local historian will provide an informative tour through the air-conditioned museum. There is also an optional tour of a short walk across to the Don Rak war cemetery. Rejoin the train for lunch before arrival into Bangkok in the afternoon.
